Amarantos String Quartet

Amarantos Quartet
The Amarantos String Quartet was formed in Portland, Maine with the mission to reinvent the role of the string quartet in the modern cultural landscape. Through presentation of new music, unique collaborations and original arrangements violinists Lauren and Meagan, violist/arranger Bryan, and cellist Hannah are attracting new, diverse audiences to the chamber music genre. Classically trained, each member of the quartet has also performed extensively with musicians from a wide variety of styles such as rock, pop, folk, world, and more.

Cindy Bee

Cindy Bee
Cindy Bee began storytelling at a very young age, making up fun adventures for her younger siblings. Since those early days Bee has frequented storytelling stages all across Maine including Sound Bites in Brunswick, The Corner in Lewiston, MOOSE in Portland, and many others, including an appearance on NPR's “This I Believe”. In 2016 she won the story slam for the League for the Advancement of New England Storytellers. Many of her stories have to do with beekeeping, a family business handed down through the generations, and a craft that Bee still practices today as she tends over a hundred hives each year.
Local Spotlight
Doug Hazard
Doug Hazard started writing songs when he was about 14 years old, which is a long time ago now.  By the time he was 18 he’d sold two of them to April-Blackwood Music in NYC, and met the author of “Wild Thing.”  He also wrote and performed songs for two short-subject films that played nationally. Thus encouraged, he continued to make up songs and to improve his performance of them… but not with any great sense of urgency, because it was, after all, the Sixties.

Doug and his wife Patty moved to North Sandwich, NH in 1976, raised two daughters there, and haven’t moved yet.
Although, of sad necessity, he had to do actual useful work for many years, he never stopped writing or practicing, and has recorded four solo albums and another four collaborations that also include some of his songs. He continues to perform around New Hampshire and Vermont and Maine, and to record himself and others in his home studio.  In recent years he has also kept busy accompanying other musicians in concert and in the studio, playing the mandolin.
